ADAS that knows when not to act

Multisensor perception • Continuous confidence • Safe degradation
TARGET: Jetson Orin Nano 64GB
SENSORS: Camera + Radar/LiDAR + IMU + GNSS
DEPLOYMENT: In development

Argus Drive is an advanced driver-assistance system built around multisensor perception, continuous confidence estimation, and governance by safe, explicit degradation. It is designed to observe, predict, and conditionally intervene in the vehicle’s dynamic behavior and the surrounding road environment—without assuming perfect perception.

  • Multisensor fusion with uncertainty: camera(s), proximity sensors (radar and/or LiDAR), IMU, GNSS, and vehicle bus (CAN/FlexRay/OBD) are fused into a unified state with explicit uncertainty propagation.
  • Perception and classification: detection, tracking, and classification of vulnerable road users, vehicles, fixed obstacles, and relevant signage.
  • Temporal prediction: multi-horizon trajectory forecasting for detected objects and ego-vehicle motion.
  • Risk evaluation: dynamic risk metrics based on distance, time-to-collision (TTC), trajectory intersection probability, and associated uncertainty.
  • Global Argus confidence: aggregated confidence derived from sensor quality, temporal consistency, tracking stability, and cross-sensor agreement.
  • ADAS decisioning: driver warnings and assistance commands (braking, trajectory correction, acceleration limiting) conditioned on risk metrics and global confidence.
  • Gating and safe degradation: hierarchical confidence thresholds reduce or suppress automation in a controlled way rather than failing silently.
  • Local technical storage: logging of states, degradation events, risk/confidence metrics, and diagnostics for audit and improvement.

Confidence governance

Hierarchical thresholds

  • Below T1: reduce detection sensitivity and assistance update frequency.
  • Below T2: keep only essential risk-mitigation assistances.
  • Below T3: disable automatic interventions and keep critical driver alerts only, logging a safe-degradation event.

Closed-loop operation

  • Prediction vs observation discrepancies update uncertainty continuously.
  • Global confidence conditions both the decision and the intensity of interventions in real time.
  • Degradation events are stored locally for technical audit and iterative improvement.
Technical rationale: Argus Drive treats confidence as a first-class operational variable and prefers explicit, controlled degradation over silent failure.
